Hi! I’m Ben Kok
I am currently a junior in college at the University of North GA in Dahlonega studying criminal justice with a forensics concentration. After this I am planning on pursuing a master’s and then hopefully going into the forensics field. Academically I love to write and learn about science, especially astronomy! Outside of school I love anything outdoor/activity related, such as biking, soccer, wrestling, and especially swimming! I’ve been swimming for as long as I can remember, and swam competitively for many years, which looking back was one of the best decisions ever. My hope is that I can pass on my knowledge and experience to the new swimmers, so they can one day look back on it in the same way I do.
I am a new instructor here at Swim Warriors, but so far it has been a great experience! I love working with kids and really enjoy seeing them progress and overcome fears they may have. One of the things I like to teach, especially new swimmers, is how much fun swimming can be. If they start to see swimming and swim practice as a fun and enjoyable experience, it will make learning the basics that much easier, and they can keep building, becoming fantastic swimmers in the future. The fear of the water is a natural and sometimes safe thing for a child to have, but if they replace this with confidence and knowledge, those tears will turn into laughs!
Another thing I like to focus on with my swimmers, particularly the stroke swimmers, is the importance of proper technique. By focusing on doing each movement correctly, as opposed to rushing through multiple strokes, they will become far more efficient than they would have if we just moved past the tiny mistakes. Efficiency in the water is what separates the good swimmers from the great swimmers and makes swimming almost effortless for those who understand it. I can’t wait to meet you all and I really look forward to having some fun in the water!
