Megan Bassett
First Year Instructor

Hello! My name is Megan Bassett
I joined Swim Warriors in August. I’m a proud mom of three wonderful children, ages 14, 10, and 8, and my husband and I have been married for 17 years. Our family moved to Georgia in 2021 after spending six years in Florida, and swimming has always been one of our favorite activities. You’ll often find us at the pool until closing time or enjoying the beach together — we recently reached a milestone when our whole family snorkeled for the first time!

My passion for swim safety began after a close call in the water when my now 10-year-old was just 2 years old. That experience deeply shaped my understanding of drowning prevention and water safety. In particular, I learned about the risks associated with puddle jumpers, which led me to make more informed decisions about water safety for my children. Ever since, I’ve been committed to helping other families build the same confidence and awareness around water. I believe that when safety improves, we can all focus more on the fun and joy of swimming.

With my own children now in school, I’m grateful to spend my workdays making a positive impact. In addition to teaching at Swim Warriors, I also work at a preschool in Dawsonville, assisting in a classroom of two- and three-year-olds.

At Swim Warriors, I’ve had the privilege of teaching swimmers of all abilities, including children with autism, ADHD, and cerebral palsy. One of my greatest joys has been adapting lessons to meet each child’s unique needs while ensuring they learn the same essential swimming skills. For example, I created a “color game” to help one swimmer improve head position during floats, and I’ve used creative strategies and equipment to help build independence in the water. Seeing each swimmer’s progress and confidence grow is truly rewarding.

Outside of work, I enjoy swimming for exercise, running, hiking, singing, and both playing and coaching soccer — I’ve coached teams for each of my kids! Our family also loves to travel, especially to our favorite Florida beaches or on cruises together.
As a mom of 3, I’ve been in your shoes—figuring out which swim lessons are right for each child. I love Brooke’s program!! None of the progress happens overnight, but I’ve seen big skill jumps happen in 3-6 lessons as they keep coming. A positive and trusting attitude goes a long way. When your child sees that you believe in them and in their instructor, they’ll start trusting too. You’ll hear me say a lot: “you’re getting better and better!” It reminds kids that progress is happening, and they always have more to learn.
